Melanie DeBord - Gifted and Talented K - 3rd
Hello! My name is Melanie DeBord and I am so excited about this year at Puster Elementary! This is my second year teaching at Puster Elementary. Prior to this, I taught 3rd grade at Hart Elementary for 6 years. This year, I will be teaching GT K-3rd, which is a change for me and I am looking forward to it.
I have lived in Texas for 14 years now. Both of my children will be at the high school this year. My son is in 12th grade, and my daughter is in 9th grade. As a family, we enjoy going to local nature preserves and hiking. We also enjoy going to the movie theater.
I grew up in Michigan, and at the age of 19, I enlisted in the United States Air Force. This was an amazing opportunity for me, and I learned so much! I worked as a Public Health Craftsman and was enlisted for 9 years. I had both of my children while on active duty. After I had my second child, I completed my second enlistment and separated from the military with an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant. I stayed home with my 2 children for a few years and then used the Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits from my military service to return to college for my teaching degree. I graduated from Texas A & M - Commerce in 2015 and was hired into Lovejoy ISD that summer.
Teaching is a passion of mine, and what I love most is foster a positive learning environment where relationships matter while instilling a passion for lifelong learning. I foster a fun and engaging classroom where students learn to collaborate through each child's unique set of strengths. Thank you for entrusting me with your child this year.
