My name is Heather Fisher, and I am thrilled to be the dyslexia therapy teacher at Puster Elementary! I am a graduate of Dallas Baptist University, and in my teaching career, I have taught general education, special education, and dyslexia therapy for students in grades K-5th.
My husband John and I live in McKinney, and we are blessed to have four children, ages 11-17. (Our oldest just left for college!). As a family, we enjoy traveling, attending live music events, and being actively involved in our church and community.
I first came to Lovejoy ISD in 2012, where I had the pleasure of serving students as the lead special education teacher at Lovejoy Elementary. Last year, I had an opportunity to be a part of opening a new elementary campus in Prosper ISD, teaching third grade. While it was a wonderful year, my heart remained in Lovejoy, and I quickly followed it back.
This year, I am excited to be working with the amazing teaching team at Puster Elementary to support students with dyslexia. In the Take Flight program we will address all components of reading with direct, intensive and explicit instruction using multi-sensory techniques. I firmly believe that all students can learn, and proper interventions and support have tremendous impact on student achievement. I am passionate about building confidence in students by guiding them to recognize their strengths and encouraging them to take risks in their learning. It is truly an honor to partner with parents and teachers to help students overcome dyslexia and experience success in the classroom and in life. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
